Review: SALAZAR ” HIP-HOP THROWBACK MIXTAPE”
Salazar a local artist from Miami that has influenced many in his city with his non-stop talent and his positive strength to live this dream. This artist with his quick Spanish flow and the originality one provides in his music shows the dedication he has as an artist. Salazar’s “Hip Hop Throwback Mixtape” gives us a taste of the old with the new mixing in old beats with many of his sick verses with a little bit of sazooon from his Latin roots. Listening track by track, Salazar delivers a very professional nonetheless different vibe in this impeccable album. Salazar conveys a structure of the music as well compelled with words that come from the deepest thoughts of an artist hoping to be understood by the music and fearless to whatever he may be judged by. Salazar has put the remarkable DJ Heron on the turntables. As you can witness yourself Dj Heron has brought something back in this mixtape, which is the scratching effect “Turntablism” that gives me that 90’s flow. Dope ish Dj Heron! Not only can we enjoy Salazars voice but we can hear the different artist that have joined you on the album from Marii Jane, Omniscient, Emo, Eddy-K, Itagui, Shottie and many more. That shows that this artist carries not only the unity factor but also the support he has for fellow artist’s as himself. Salazar being able to share this talent in both languages its getting a little of both worlds. Hoping this and many more albums will be out so we can share it with the world. The message he relays in this album amazes me because in fact he has a positive one, one that many might not think of and not even act on it, appreciating the history of Hip- Hop.
Get the Inside Scoop from Salazar himself on the Block!
Fabs: Why did you name it “Hip Hop Throwback Mixtape” ?
Salazar: I used the name ”Hip Hop Throwback Mixtape” cause the instrumentals I used are from oldschool Hip Hop records from the years 90-96.
Fabs: What influenced you in this album ?
Salazar: Well for beginners I wanted to do something different from what everybody else is doing now a days worldwide on there mixtapes which is mainly use beats that are mainstream commercial and on the radio actively. Also I wanted to target younger listeners on this project that really havent heard this era of hip hop cause of how many years have passed and also because of how hip hop has evolved and changed during all that time. On another note I wanted to do it as a tribute to all the Mc’s before and during that era to give homage cause it’s what I listened to growing up it’s where my inspiration to rap came and still comes from today.
Fabs: The idea of mixing the latin roots in your songs going from english to spanish how did that come about?
Salazar: Well it came naturally I mean I have fun I play with it I can target a bigger audience I dont really sound like anybody its my own unique style which is what is most important to me in my eyes and I get to impliment and give it more culture to my liking and represent my roots without getting out of character or changing my approach to how I make music.
Fabs: As the collabs go about in this mixtape what is your meaning of having different talent mixed in with yours?
Salazar: For one I wanted to give it a very distinct genuine old school feel so I got the best lyricist I know in Miami and went to work cause back then Hip hop was about lyrics substance and content and that’s what I felt these other Miami artist bring to the table each and everytime they get on a track. Ofcourse I cant forget Dj Heron on the 1,2′s without him none of this would’ve been possible. He brought an element which is so often forgotten and is so overlooked now a days the real Dj “turnblism” which is what gives this tape the old school throwback feel I wanted for this project.
Fabs: Do you have a favorite song off this album?
Salazar: To be honest with you I love the whole thing beginning to end it just takes me on a journey through Hip hop where I instantly start reminiscing and I its the same affect I want it to have as well for the audience. As for the younger generation I want them to know where the heart of this music is and also for them to know what they consider hip hop now a days where it all came from. Thanks for having me on this interview Jojo and for all your moral support . I want to give a S/o to all the people that made this tape possible Dj Heron, Yeyo Cancio- Bello, Los, Robert (Bobbo) Gomez, Shottie, Itagui, Omniscient, Marii Jane, Joey Duz, Agony, Rippa, Eddy-k, Emo, and Cozmek. Very big S/o to you Jojo for having me and ofcouse to all my fans out there for supporting me without yall there would’nt be a me thank you. God bless.
